A wide variety of control systems and software is available to textile processors, ranging from simple single-step monitoring to integrated monitoring of the total process and generation of production management data. Here, JUDI BARTON offers an overview of the newest equipment, some introduced to the market at ITMA 2003.

Barco offer solutions for total production control, including process control, recipe control/calculation and material control. Material control includes MORAPEX (non-destructive testing for fabric on fastness, residuals, pH, conductivity) and FORMALD1METER (measuremenfof residual formaldehyde on fabric). Recipe control comprises FLEX (dye\ liquor control before dyeing) and \ COLORMASTER (colour matching, recipe management and process optimisation for lab and production). Process control includes all the company's SEDOMAT controller models, SEDOMASTER (central management system including link to chemical dispenser and weighing station) and other tools, including seam detection.

Latest Sedomat Controller

A new, powerful but compact touch-screen controller, the Sedomat 2500, offers Ethernet for standard TCP/IP network integration, with USB and Profibus DP interface, making it easy to link or connect. Having a standard PLC and working with internal as well with external I/O, it can be adapted to suit any type of dyeing machine. Webserver technology enables the user and the service team to get remote access quickly and easily. The Sedomat 2500 uses OPC architecture to give seamless integration with supervisory systems such as the Sedomaster.

Sedomcsster Improvements

The central system, SEDOMASTER, is now able to connect to and control continuous machines. This means that not only the dyehouse, but also all textile-finishing machines on a production site, can be integrated within Sedomaster. The new version has already been installed at two textile-finishing sites in Germany, with further installations outside Germany imminent. The Sedomaster Editor has, for continuous machines (Picture 3, overleaf), one register card per machine section, showing all parameters, such as speed, temperature and dwell time. Typical machine sections are: Foulard, Steamer, Washer. In the Sedomaster Planboard, the duration of the continuous processes is automatically calculated by the system.
